The Top 5 Questions I ask in Brand Strategy
Getting your brand strategy down pat so your design follows suit.
When we work together, you’re puttin’ your entire first impression in my hands. And that’s a responsibility I do not take lightly! In order to nail that love-at-first-scroll moment, there are a few things I need to know about your business first. You know your business like the back of your hand, but I don't — yet. As your designer, I need to learn as much as I possibly can so that we can perfect a brand strategy and creative direction that fits like a freakin’ glove!
I know it can be hard to think up all of this stuff on your own, which is why I’m here to guide you with some questions!
Here are the five brand strategy questions that I swear by:
1. "What are you core values?"
I know, we’re diving right in. Understanding you and your business' core values will help me get a feel for who you are, what you stand for, and what’s really at the heart of your business.
2. "Why did you get into this business?"
They say your “why” is the most important thing, and I 100% agree. There is so much power in serving a strong “why” especially when it comes to creating a visual identity for your business.
3. "Who is your ideal customer and why will they care?"
Make sure you know them just as well as you know your business! We will be able to open a conversation with them so much easier once we know exactly who we’re talking to.
4. "What do you want your brand to make others feel and experience emotionally?"
At the end of the day, your business isn’t really about what you do for other people, it’s about how you make other people feel. We want them to get a lil’ preview of all those good feelings when they see your branding.
5. "What makes you stand out from others in your field?"
Of all the other businesses in your market, why you? Sure, you may all offer the same thing, but you inevitably have something about you and your business that makes people choose you. That’s the secret sauce. I want to pull that through!
These five questions act as the perfect springboard for the creative work ahead because I get to step into your shoes as the business owner and start to see the whole vision. I want to connect with you, your business, and your story (which is always such an honor to me) because your new visual identity should be a reflection of that!
