How to Prune Your Brand / Website

As your business grows and evolves, it's important to regularly assess your brand and website to ensure they are properly aligned with your mission and vision.

Here are some steps to help you prune your brand and website for maximum impact:

1. Define your Mission and Vision

Before you can prune your brand and website, you need to have a clear understanding of your mission and vision. Your mission statement should articulate your business's core purpose, while your vision statement should describe your long-term goals. Once you have a clear understanding of your mission and vision, you can evaluate your brand and website to ensure they are supporting these goals.

If you already have a mission and vision existing, revisit it. Ask yourself questions like:

  • Has anything changed in my business?

  • Does this still fit where I am at currently in my business?

  • What is my 5 year plan (and does my mission/vision still align?)

 

2. Evaluate Your Brand

Your brand is the face of your business, so it's important to ensure it accurately reflects your mission and vision. Start by reviewing your brand's messaging, including your tagline, brand promise, and brand voice. Do these elements align with your mission and vision? If not, it may be time to update them.

If they feel outdated, too similar to other businesses, not aligned to how your business has grown, it may be time to refresh your visual identity.

 

3. Evaluate Your Website

Your website is often the first point of contact for potential customers, so it's important to ensure it accurately reflects your brand and supports your mission and vision. Start by reviewing your website's messaging, including your homepage copy and calls to action. Do these elements clearly communicate your business's core purpose and long-term goals? Next, review your website's design and user experience. Is your website easy to navigate and visually appealing? Does it accurately represent your brand? If not, it may be time to refresh your website's design.
